As the days grow brighter and warmer, the allotment season is getting into full swing and we are long overdue an update on what’s been happening on the site. First off, a warm welcome to all of our new members who have recently joined. For those who are newer, our site has been owned and run by its members since 1950. Without the time, effort and support of members past and present, the site wouldn’t be in the shape it is today. So thanks to all those who have devoted their time and hard work to keep the site looking great!
Congratulations are in order for the Friends of the ASN Wing at Bucksburn Academy, who secured a grant from the Scottish Government’s Just Transition fund to redevelop their plot on our site. You may have noticed some work being done to install wheelchair accessible paths. We will look forward to seeing their design come to fruition.
The committee and members had a busy year last season. One of the priorities for the year was to increase engagement in our working party days. We rely on everyone chipping in to maintain the site and in years past, we have struggled with low turnout to our working party days. We are very pleased to say that last year 83% of our membership turned up and helped out. So thank you everyone for your support! And thanks to Ian and Tom for supplying the butteries and snacks! The committee members were also busy throughout the year, cutting grass, improving site security, increasing water collection, adding roof sheeting to collect water, tidying and pruning in the wildlife area, dividing up larger plots to make smaller plots for new members, keeping the padlocks working and more generally keeping the site tidy. This year, we hope to improve communication amongst members and the committee, so we have set up a private Facebook group for current plotters. If you currently are a member and would like to join, please complete a request here including your name and plot number: https://facebook.com/groups/559953686577908/
